Cockroaches are an ancient group, having remained relatively unchanged for hundreds of millions of years.

Ancient they may be, but the mere mention of them is enough to turn my stomach. And it’s not just me.

The residents of the Collingwood Flats have had it up to here with these nasty little brutes. The fast moving, shiny, black or brown roaches in Collingwood aren’t native Australian cockroaches, but introduced pests!

A cockroach infestation has taken hold on the Collingwood public housing estate and the people living there are sick and tired of being ignored by the Office of Housing. They’ve demanded that the Housing Minister Richard Wynne take immediate action to clean up the towers.

Disappointingly Richard Wynne has so far refused to even meet with them.

So the tenants are staging a protest at the estate at 1.00 pm this Friday, 21st May, outside the Office of Housing, 229 Hoddle Street Collingwood.

Some residents suggest collecting dead cockroaches and delivering them to the Minister’s office.

I’d prefer catching live ones and delivering them to Wynne’s home.
